The Sled Dog Medicine Club branched out from our usual expertise to provide health checks and volunteer power at the Horse Crazy Market Corgi Races at the State Fair Grounds. This was the first year the races were held and therefore our first year being involved in this event so none of us knew what to expect. What a weekend! Our members stepped up to help keep the event running and make sure the dogs were fit to race. SDMC members performed a physical exam on every corgi, corgi mix, and one Swedish vallhund that turned up to race. Everyone got practice with physical exams, client communication, and changing things on the fly. We also got some corgi kisses! Being in the midst of finals, the races provided a great escape from studying and stressing over tests. We also got to help judge the costume contest, which was a ton of fun but a very hard decision for all of us. At the end of the day, we had checked dozens of dogs and had a great time doing it. A few of our members posing with some of the racers and coordinators.

The ITC hopes to implement the new care standards program before sign ups for the 2019 race.
